JNPM (Jurnal Nasional Pendidikan Matematika) is committed to maintaining integrity, transparency, fairness, and accountability in scholarly publishing. This policy is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and relevant COPE guidance.
This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher throughout manuscript submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication assessment.
Originality and proper attribution
Authors must submit original work and acknowledge all sources appropriately. Material reproduced or adapted from other publications, including text, figures, tables, and research instruments, must be properly cited. Permission must be obtained where required.
Plagiarism, substantial undisclosed text recycling, and the presentation of previously published findings as new research are unacceptable.
Accurate reporting
Authors must describe their research methods, findings, and interpretations accurately. Fabrication, falsification, misleading image manipulation, and deliberate omission of findings that materially affect the conclusions are prohibited.
Research limitations must be acknowledged, and conclusions must be supported by the evidence presented.
Exclusive submission and related publications
Manuscripts must not be submitted to another journal while under consideration by JNPM. Authors must disclose related manuscripts and explain any substantial overlap with previously disseminated work, including conference papers, theses, dissertations, reports, or preprints. Such disclosure allows the editor to assess originality and publication eligibility.
Authorship and contributorship
JNPM requires all listed authors to have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work, participated in drafting or critically revising the manuscript, approved the final version, and accepted accountability for their contributions.
The corresponding author must ensure that all authors approve the submission and authorship order. Contributors who do not meet the journal’s authorship criteria should be acknowledged with their permission.
Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must include an explanation and written agreement from all affected individuals. Unresolved authorship disputes may be referred to the relevant institutions, and manuscript processing may be suspended pending resolution.
Funding and competing interests
Authors must disclose funding sources, the role of funders, and any financial or non-financial relationships that could reasonably influence the research or its interpretation. Authors must also declare when they have no competing interests.
Research involving students, teachers, or other human participants must protect their rights, dignity, privacy, and well-being. Authors must report ethics approval where required, including the approving body and approval reference when available. Where review is not required or an exemption applies, authors should explain the basis.
Participation must be voluntary and based on informed consent. Research involving children requires appropriate parental or guardian permission and the child’s assent, according to applicable requirements. School permission does not replace individual consent where required.
Particular care is necessary when researchers are also participants’ teachers or assessors. Refusal to participate or withdrawal must not adversely affect students’ grades, educational opportunities, or relationships with their teachers.
Identifiable photographs, quotations, or personal information require appropriate consent for publication. Authors must explain how confidentiality was protected.
Authors must retain research records responsibly and provide sufficient methodological detail to support evaluation of their findings. The journal may request supporting data or documentation when questions arise.
Authors should include a data availability statement explaining whether and how supporting data can be accessed. Any restrictions arising from participant consent, confidentiality, intellectual property, or other legitimate obligations must be explained. Sensitive participant data must not be made publicly available in a way that compromises privacy.
Editors assess manuscripts according to their relevance, originality, methodological quality, clarity, contribution, and ethical soundness. Decisions must be fair and independent of discrimination or commercial influence.
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for publication decisions, taking reviewers’ recommendations and editorial assessments into account.
Editors must protect confidential submissions and correspondence. They must not use unpublished material for personal benefit without the authors’ permission.
Editors with competing interests must withdraw from handling the affected submission. Manuscripts submitted by editors or editorial board members must be managed by an independent editor, with the submitting editor excluded from reviewer selection and decision-making.
Editors must investigate credible integrity concerns and take appropriate action before or after publication.
JNPM uses double-blind peer review. Manuscripts that pass initial editorial screening are assessed by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
Reviewers are expected to observe the principles described in the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.
Reviewers must:
Accept assignments only when they have suitable expertise and sufficient time;
Declare competing interests before accepting an assignment;
Provide clear, constructive, evidence-based evaluations;
Maintain confidentiality and avoid using unpublished information for personal advantage;
Notify the editor of suspected plagiarism, unreliable data, or other ethical concerns; and
Recommend citations only where academically justified.
Reviewers must not delegate a review or share a manuscript without the editor’s permission. Fabricated reviewer identities, manipulated reports, coercive citation requests, and other attempts to compromise peer review are prohibited.
JNPM screens submissions using Turnitin, iThenticate, or another suitable similarity-detection tool.
Under JNPM’s screening policy, manuscripts with an overall similarity score exceeding 20% may be returned for revision or rejected, depending on the nature and extent of the overlap. This threshold is a journal policy, not a threshold prescribed by COPE.
Similarity reports are assessed in context. A low score does not establish that a manuscript is free from plagiarism, and a high score does not automatically establish misconduct. Editors examine attribution, quotation, duplicated publication, and the originality of the underlying work.
Informed by the COPE Position Statement on Authorship and AI Tools, JNPM does not permit AI tools to be listed as authors. Human authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, references, and integrity of their work.
Authors must disclose substantive use of AI in writing, image generation, coding, data processing, or analysis, identifying the tool and its purpose. Routine spelling and grammar checks do not require a separate declaration under this journal policy.
AI-generated data must not be represented as observations collected from research participants. Authors must verify AI-generated content and references.
Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to external AI services that could compromise confidentiality. Editorial judgment and responsibility must remain with the appointed human editors and reviewers.
Concerns may be submitted through the journal’s official Contact page. Reports should identify the manuscript or article, describe the concern, and provide supporting evidence where available.
JNPM will assess allegations fairly, including concerns raised anonymously when sufficiently specific and supported. Relevant parties will be given an opportunity to respond. The journal may request additional documentation and contact the authors’ institutions or other responsible bodies where necessary.
Editorial action will depend on the evidence and its implications for the publication. Possible actions include requesting clarification or revision, rejecting a submission, issuing a correction or expression of concern, or retracting an article. JNPM will consult relevant COPE guidance and flowcharts when handling cases.
JNPM maintains the accuracy of the published record through appropriate post-publication notices, informed by the COPE Retraction Guidelines.
A correction may be issued when an error can be addressed without invalidating the main findings.
An expression of concern may be issued when serious questions remain unresolved, particularly while an investigation is pending.
A retraction may be necessary when findings are unreliable or publication integrity is seriously compromised, including through fabrication, falsification, substantial plagiarism, unethical research, or manipulated peer review. Retraction may also be appropriate when an honest error invalidates the findings.
Notices will identify the affected article and explain the reason for the action. Retracted articles will normally remain accessible, clearly marked and linked to the retraction notice. Removal of content will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, such as serious privacy or legal concerns.
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by providing a reasoned explanation and supporting evidence through the journal’s official contact channel. An appeal must identify a substantive concern about the assessment or procedure.
Complaints concerning editorial conduct, conflicts of interest, or publication procedures will be considered by an editor or publisher representative who was not directly involved in the matter. Complaints involving the Editor-in-Chief will be referred to the publisher for independent consideration.
Submitting an appeal does not guarantee reversal of a decision. The outcome will be communicated to the complainant with an appropriate explanation.
JNPM welcomes evidence-based scholarly discussion of published articles. Readers may submit substantive comments or concerns through the journal’s official contact channel.
Editors may invite authors to respond and may publish correspondence, corrections, or other notices where necessary. Discussions must focus on scientific content and remain professional.
Universitas Swadaya Gunung Djati, in collaboration with the Indonesian Mathematics Educators’ Society (IMES), supports editorial independence and the responsible maintenance of the scholarly record.
The publisher supports the investigation of integrity concerns and the publication of necessary corrections or retractions. Publication fees, waiver arrangements, sponsorship, or other financial considerations must not determine acceptance decisions.
