The layout, section headings, author information, tables, figures, and other elements must follow the journal template. Manuscripts must be editable and must not be submitted as scanned documents.
JNPM uses double-blind peer review. To preserve anonymity, authors must prepare two separate files.
A. Author information page
The author information page must include:
Article title;
Full names of all authors without academic titles;
Each author’s affiliation, including study program or department, institution, city, and country;
Email addresses of all authors;
An asterisk (*) identifying the corresponding author;
ORCID identifiers, where available;
Author contribution statement;
Funding information and acknowledgments; and
Conflict of interest statement.
This page must be uploaded separately for editorial use and must not be included in the manuscript sent to reviewers.
B. Anonymous main manuscript
The main manuscript must not contain author names, affiliations, email addresses, identifying acknowledgments, or other identifying information in the filename, comments, or document properties.
References to the authors’ previous work should remain in the manuscript and be presented neutrally in the third person. Avoid wording that reveals authorship, such as “in our previous study.”
Sensitive information needed for editorial assessment may be provided in a separate file. Information removed to preserve anonymity must be restored in the final version after acceptance.
Empirical research articles should contain the following sections: title, Indonesian abstract, English abstract, keywords, introduction, methods, results and discussion, conclusion, supporting declarations, and references.
4.1. Title
The title must be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the study’s subject in mathematics education. Avoid unfamiliar abbreviations, overly broad terms, and claims unsupported by the article.
4.2. Abstract
Abstracts must be provided in Indonesian and English with equivalent content. Each abstract must be written as a single paragraph of no more than 200 words.
The abstract should include a brief statement of the problem or background, the research objective, methods, main findings, and conclusion. Findings must be stated concretely. Avoid citations, tables, mathematical formulas, and unexplained abbreviations.
4.3. Keywords
Provide 3–5 keywords or phrases in Indonesian and English following the respective abstracts. Select terms that represent the main concepts and support article discoverability. Avoid unfamiliar abbreviations.
4.4. Introduction
The introduction must explain:
The research context and significance of the problem;
Relevant theoretical foundations and previous studies;
The knowledge gap or unresolved problem;
The novelty and contribution of the study; and
The research objectives or questions and, where appropriate, hypotheses.
The literature discussion should build an argument rather than simply summarize previous studies sequentially. The introduction must refer to at least 10 relevant journal articles, prioritizing publications from the past 10 years. Seminal sources may be included where necessary to establish the theoretical foundation.
4.5. Methods
The methods must be described in sufficient detail for readers to assess the research procedures and their appropriateness. Depending on the approach, this section should explain:
Research approach and design;
Relevant research context, location, and period;
Participants or data sources and selection procedures;
Instruments and evidence of their quality;
Data collection procedures;
Data analysis techniques; and
Participant protection and ethics approval, where required.
Quantitative studies should describe variables, analytical techniques, and relevant assumption checks. Qualitative studies should explain the interpretive process, coding procedures where used, and measures taken to establish the credibility of findings.
Development or design studies should describe development stages, evaluation, revisions, and the basis for decisions. Avoid presenting general definitions of research methods without explaining how they were applied.
4.6. Results and Discussion
Results and discussion must be presented in an integrated section. Subsections may be organized according to the research questions or themes.
Findings must be reported clearly and supported by sufficient evidence. Tables, figures, participant quotations, or examples of students’ work may be included where they help explain the findings.
The discussion must:
Interpret the findings and explain their underlying reasons;
Compare the findings with relevant theories and previous research;
Explain similarities, differences, or unexpected results;
Establish the contribution to mathematics education; and
Address the study’s implications and limitations.
Avoid repeating all table contents in the text or merely stating that findings “agree with previous research” without further analysis.
4.7. Conclusion
The conclusion must be written in paragraph form and answer the research objectives or questions. Summarize the principal findings, contributions, and implications concisely. Recommendations must follow from the findings. Do not introduce new data or unsupported claims.
4.8. Theoretical Studies and Literature Reviews
The structure may be adapted to the type of study but must include a clear objective, the basis for selecting sources, the analytical or synthesis process, critical discussion, and conclusions.
Systematic reviews should report databases, search strategies and dates, inclusion and exclusion criteria, selection procedures, quality assessment where applicable, and synthesis methods. Theoretical studies must demonstrate a clear development of arguments or conceptual contribution.
Number tables and figures consecutively and refer to each in the text.
Place table titles above tables and figure captions below figures.
Tables must be editable and must not be inserted as screenshots.
Figures must be clear, with labels readable at publication size.
Acknowledge the sources of adapted or reproduced material and obtain permission where required.
Protect names, faces, school identities, and personal information appearing in students’ work or research documentation in accordance with participant consent.
Prepare equations using an equation editor. Use symbols, units, and notation consistently and define them when first introduced.
Avoid presenting the same data in both tables and graphs without a clear purpose.
Citations and references must consistently follow APA Style, 7th edition. Authors are encouraged to use Mendeley, Zotero, or another reference manager and must verify the resulting formatting.
References must meet the following requirements:
Include at least 15 primary references from relevant journal articles;
Prioritize recent research while retaining essential foundational sources;
Ensure that every source cited in the text appears in the reference list and vice versa;
Arrange entries alphabetically by author name;
Present available DOIs as links in the format https://doi.org/...;
Provide official or permanent URLs for online sources without DOIs, where appropriate; and
Avoid irrelevant citations, unverifiable sources, and secondary citations when the original sources are available.
Policy documents, official reports, and institutional sources may be used where relevant. Personal blogs and sources without academic accountability must not serve as the principal scholarly foundation.
Examples of in-text citation patterns:
One author: Noto (2022) or (Noto, 2022).
Two authors: Noto and Nopriana (2022) in narrative citations, or (Noto & Nopriana, 2022) in parenthetical citations.
Three or more authors: Noto et al. (2022) or (Noto et al., 2022).
These examples illustrate citation patterns only and are not references that authors are required to cite. Further guidance is available on the official APA Style website.
Author contributions
Describe each author’s contribution, such as conceptualization, methodology, data collection, analysis, drafting, revision, or supervision. Statements must accurately reflect the work performed.
Funding and acknowledgments
Identify funding organizations, grant or contract numbers where available, and the funders’ roles. If no specific funding was received, state this explicitly. Individuals who assisted but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged with their permission.
Conflicts of interest
Disclose relationships or interests that could influence the research. Where none exist, authors may state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest related to this research and its publication.”
Data availability
Explain how supporting data can be accessed or why access is restricted. Data sharing must respect participant consent, privacy, and applicable obligations.
Use of artificial intelligence
Substantive use of AI in writing, coding, image generation, data processing, or analysis must be disclosed by identifying the tool and its purpose. Authors are responsible for verifying all outputs. AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Declarations that reveal author identities must be placed in the author information file during peer review and restored in the final manuscript.
Authors must comply with JNPM’s Publication Ethics policy. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, and simultaneous submission are prohibited.
Manuscripts undergo similarity screening. An overall similarity score exceeding 20% may result in a request for revision or rejection, depending on the nature and source of the overlap. Assessment is not based solely on the percentage: manuscripts with low scores may still contain plagiarism.
Research involving human participants must address informed consent, data protection, and ethics approval where required.
Select the option to begin a new submission.
Read and complete the submission checklist.
Upload the anonymous main manuscript, author information page, and supporting files under the appropriate component types.
Complete all metadata, including the title, abstracts, keywords, all authors, affiliations, and corresponding author. The metadata must match the manuscript.
Use the comments field to provide information relevant to the editor, including relationships to earlier publications or matters requiring clarification.
Review all entries and finalize the submission.
Monitor the submission status and editorial correspondence through OJS and the registered email address.
Manuscripts that pass initial screening proceed to peer review. Following evaluation, the editor may request revisions, accept the manuscript, or reject it.
Revised manuscripts must be submitted through OJS with a point-by-point response to the editor’s and reviewers’ comments. Responses should identify the changes made and their locations. Suggestions not followed must be accompanied by an academic justification.
Unless the editor specifies otherwise, revisions must be returned within 20 days. Requests for extensions must be submitted before the deadline.
After acceptance, authors must check the proofs for accuracy of the text, author information, tables, figures, and references. Substantive changes at this stage require editorial approval.
Before completing the submission, confirm that:
The manuscript fits JNPM’s focus and scope;
It has not been published as a journal article and is not under consideration elsewhere;
All authors have approved the submission;
The formatting and manuscript length meet the guidelines;
The main manuscript is anonymous and the author information page is provided separately;
Abstracts and keywords are available in Indonesian and English;
Tables, figures, and equations are clear and cited in the text;
Citations and references have been checked;
Permissions, participant consent, and ethics approval have been obtained where required;
Funding, competing interest, contribution, data availability, and AI-use declarations have been prepared as applicable; and
The OJS metadata are complete and consistent with the manuscript.
Questions regarding submission may be directed through the JNPM Contact page.
