Self-Archiving and Repository Policy
The Journal of Green Science and Technology (JGST) supports the dissemination, accessibility, and preservation of scholarly research through responsible self-archiving.
Authors are permitted to deposit and make available versions of their manuscripts in institutional, subject-based, disciplinary, funder-designated, or other appropriate repositories, as well as on personal or institutional academic websites, in accordance with this policy.
JGST does not impose an embargo period on self-archiving.
1. Permitted Versions
Authors may deposit the following versions of their work:
Submitted Version / Preprint
Authors may deposit the version of the manuscript submitted to JGST before peer review.
A preprint may be deposited on:
- institutional repositories;
- disciplinary or subject repositories;
- recognized preprint servers;
- personal academic websites; or
- other non-misleading scholarly platforms.
Deposit of a preprint does not constitute prior publication and does not prevent the manuscript from being considered for publication in JGST.
After the article is formally published, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record with a citation and DOI link to the Version of Record.
Accepted Manuscript
Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript after completion of peer review and editorial acceptance.
The accepted manuscript may be deposited immediately after acceptance or publication without an embargo period.
The deposited version should clearly indicate that it is an accepted manuscript and should include a link to the final published article when available.
Published Version / Version of Record
Authors may deposit the final published Version of Record immediately after publication.
The deposited Version of Record should retain the original bibliographic information and should include:
- article title;
- author name(s);
- journal title;
- volume and issue;
- publication year;
- page or article number, where applicable;
- DOI; and
- applicable license information.
Whenever possible, the deposited record should link to the official article page on the JGST website.
2. Embargo Policy
JGST applies no embargo period to author self-archiving.
Authors may make permitted versions of their manuscripts publicly accessible immediately in accordance with this policy.
3. Permitted Repositories and Platforms
Authors may deposit their work in:
- institutional repositories;
- university repositories;
- disciplinary or subject repositories;
- national repositories;
- funder-designated repositories;
- recognized preprint servers;
- personal academic websites; and
- other scholarly repositories or platforms that preserve the integrity and attribution of the work.
Deposit on a repository does not transfer copyright or ownership of the work to the repository.
4. Copyright
Authors publishing in JGST retain the copyright of their work and grant JGST the right of first publication.
JGST does not require authors to transfer copyright to the journal.
Self-archiving must therefore respect the copyright and licensing terms applicable to the individual article.
5. Licensing
Under the journal's current licensing policy, articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
The CC BY-SA 4.0 license permits users to share and adapt the published material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that:
- appropriate credit is given to the author(s);
- the original publication in JGST is acknowledged;
- a link to the applicable license is provided;
- any changes made are indicated; and
- derivative works are distributed under the same license.
Authors depositing the Version of Record should retain the applicable Creative Commons license information.
6. Historical Articles
Articles published under earlier JGST licensing arrangements retain the license recorded in their official article metadata or publication record at the time of publication.
The current JGST self-archiving and licensing policy does not retroactively alter the licensing terms of previously published articles.
When depositing historical articles, authors and users must comply with the license applicable to the individual article.
7. Citation and Linking Requirements
Deposited copies should acknowledge the original publication in JGST.
For published articles, authors should provide the complete citation and DOI of the Version of Record.
The following form is recommended:
Originally published in the Journal of Green Science and Technology (JGST). The Version of Record is available at: https://doi.org/[DOI]
Authors should not alter or remove the DOI, copyright statement, license information, or other essential bibliographic information from the Version of Record.
8. Repository Metadata
Authors are encouraged to provide complete and accurate metadata when depositing their work, including:
- article title;
- author names;
- affiliations;
- abstract;
- keywords;
- journal title;
- publication year;
- volume and issue;
- DOI;
- applicable Creative Commons license; and
- link to the official article page.
Accurate metadata helps ensure discoverability, citation integrity, and proper attribution.
9. Third-Party Material
Material included in an article that is not covered by the article's Creative Commons license may be subject to separate copyright or licensing restrictions.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the self-archiving of figures, photographs, tables, datasets, or other third-party material complies with the rights applicable to those materials.
10. Relationship to the Version of Record
JGST encourages authors who deposit preprints or accepted manuscripts to provide a link to the final published Version of Record once it becomes available.
The official Version of Record published on the JGST website remains the authoritative version for citation and scholarly reference.
11. Policy Purpose
This policy is intended to:
- increase the accessibility and visibility of published research;
- support institutional and funder open-access requirements;
- encourage responsible scholarly sharing;
- improve discoverability and citation of JGST articles; and
- support long-term access to scholarly research.
JGST supports responsible self-archiving as part of its commitment to open access and the wider dissemination of scientific knowledge.
