Publication Ethics

Caruban: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pendidikan Dasar is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, and publication ethics. The journal adheres to internationally recognized principles of responsible scholarly publishing and uses the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as one of its primary references.

Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

This publication ethics policy applies to all authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher involved in the publication process. All parties are expected to uphold academic integrity, transparency, accountability, and responsible conduct throughout the submission, peer-review, editorial decision-making, and publication processes.

1. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts:

  • present original work and have not been published elsewhere;

  • accurately report research procedures, findings, and interpretations;

  • provide appropriate citations and acknowledge the contributions of other researchers;

  • comply with applicable research ethics requirements;

  • disclose any relevant conflicts of interest;

  • obtain appropriate permissions for copyrighted materials when necessary; and

  • respond appropriately and transparently to editorial and reviewer comments.

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.

2. Authorship and Contributions

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the research.

All listed authors must have made meaningful contributions to the manuscript and must approve the final version before submission. Individuals who have contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

Any changes to authorship after submission must be justified and approved by all authors and the journal editor.

3. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are original and properly acknowledge the work of others through appropriate citation and referencing.

Plagiarism, including the use of another person's ideas, words, data, figures, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate attribution, is considered unacceptable.

The journal may use plagiarism-detection software or other appropriate procedures to identify potential plagiarism. Manuscripts found to contain significant plagiarism may be rejected, and published articles may be subject to correction or retraction when necessary.

4. Fabrication and Falsification of Data

Authors must report research findings honestly and accurately.

Fabrication of data, falsification of research results, manipulation of research materials, or inappropriate alteration of data is strictly prohibited. Suspected cases of research misconduct will be investigated in accordance with appropriate ethical procedures.

5. Duplicate and Redundant Publication

Authors must not submit or publish substantially the same research in more than one journal.

Duplicate publication, redundant publication, inappropriate fragmentation of research findings, or substantial overlap with previously published work must be disclosed to the editor.

If redundant or duplicate publication is identified after publication, the journal may take appropriate corrective action, including issuing a correction or retracting the article.

6. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or editorial process.

Editors and reviewers must not participate in the evaluation of manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists.

The existence of a disclosed conflict of interest does not necessarily prevent publication, provided that the conflict is transparently declared and appropriately managed.

7. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

  • conduct reviews objectively, fairly, and constructively;

  • maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and their contents;

  • identify relevant published work that has not been cited where appropriate;

  • inform the editor of any potential conflict of interest;

  • avoid using unpublished information for personal advantage;

  • complete reviews within the agreed timeframe; and

  • provide clear and evidence-based comments to assist editorial decision-making and manuscript improvement.

Reviewers should not communicate directly with authors regarding a manuscript under review unless authorized by the editor.

8. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, and contribution of the manuscript.

Editors must:

  • maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts;

  • ensure a fair and appropriate peer-review process;

  • manage potential conflicts of interest;

  • make editorial decisions independently and objectively;

  • respond appropriately to ethical concerns and allegations of misconduct; and

  • ensure that corrections, retractions, or other post-publication actions are implemented when necessary.

Editors must not discriminate against authors based on institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, religion, ethnicity, political views, or other irrelevant characteristics.

9. Research Integrity and Research Ethics

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical standards.

Research involving human participants, personal data, or other ethically sensitive materials should comply with relevant institutional, national, and international ethical requirements.

Where applicable, authors should provide information regarding ethical approval, informed consent, participant confidentiality, and other relevant safeguards.

10. Research Data and Reproducibility

Authors are expected to maintain accurate and reliable research records.

Where appropriate and ethically permissible, authors should make supporting data, research instruments, analytical procedures, or other relevant materials available to facilitate transparency and reproducibility.

Authors must protect confidential or personally identifiable information and must not disclose research data in ways that could harm research participants or violate applicable regulations.

11. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support activities such as language improvement, formatting, or other appropriate aspects of manuscript preparation, provided that their use does not compromise the originality, accuracy, integrity, or accountability of the work.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including the accuracy of information, citations, interpretations, originality, and compliance with ethical standards.

Where AI tools have been used in a manner that materially contributes to manuscript preparation or research-related activities, authors should disclose such use transparently in accordance with the journal's requirements.

12. Copyright and Intellectual Property

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

All copyrighted materials reproduced in a manuscript must be properly cited and, where necessary, used with appropriate permission.

Authors must comply with the journal's copyright and licensing policies upon acceptance and publication.

13. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions or the publication process to the journal's editorial office.

Complaints and appeals will be handled fairly, transparently, and confidentially. The editor will review the relevant information and supporting evidence before making a final decision.

The submission of a complaint or appeal must not result in unfair treatment of the author or affect the objective evaluation of future submissions.

14. Allegations of Ethical Misconduct

The journal takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously.

Potential misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  • plagiarism;

  • fabrication or falsification of data;

  • duplicate or redundant publication;

  • inappropriate authorship;

  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;

  • manipulation of the peer-review process; and

  • other violations of research or publication ethics.

When an allegation is received, the journal may conduct an initial assessment and, where appropriate, request clarification or supporting evidence from the relevant parties. If necessary, the journal may consult the authors' institutions or other appropriate authorities.

15. Corrections and Retractions

The journal is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record.

When significant errors are identified after publication, the journal may publish a correction, clarification, or other appropriate notice.

Articles may be retracted when there is clear evidence that the findings or publication process are seriously compromised, including cases involving major research misconduct, substantial errors, plagiarism, or duplicate publication.

Retraction decisions will be made in accordance with recognized publication-ethics principles and will be documented transparently.

16. Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher supports the editors and editorial team in maintaining the integrity, independence, and quality of the journal.

The publisher will provide appropriate support for addressing ethical concerns, correcting the scholarly record, and implementing necessary editorial actions.

The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions based on commercial, institutional, or personal interests.

17. Commitment to Publication Integrity

Caruban: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pendidikan Dasar is committed to continuously improving its publication practices and maintaining a trustworthy scholarly record.

All authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties involved in the publication process are expected to uphold the principles of honesty, transparency, accountability, fairness, confidentiality, and respect for academic integrity.

The journal may update this policy when necessary to remain consistent with developments in international standards and publication-ethics practices, including relevant guidance from COPE.
